Gas Discharge Lamps (Fluorescent tubes, metal halide, sodium etc..)

Lamp Disposal and Recycling

The UK is adopting the EWCS (European Waste Catalogue) which will classify fluorescent lamps as hazardous waste. The Special Waste regulations on lamp disposal are being amended to class waste with a hazardous waste number as Special Waste. Hazardous Waste Regulations will then replace the Special Waste Regulations.

Fluorescent lamps contain mercury and although it is only a very small amount (0.01%) the quantity that is scrapped poses a very a serious environmental threat - due to this they may not be landfilled as mercury can get into water supplies. Fluorescent lamp disposal should now be through recycling, with the glass and metal components being extracted.

Hazsafe has many options for lamp storage, lamp disposal and lamp collection depending on the type lamp and the quantity involved.
